"One of the most extraordinary maturations from The Singleton, first kept in refill wood, before double-maturing in two small ex-Madeira barriques for another fourteen years. A part of a one-off trial at Singleton, a sweet richness complements the light and elegant distillery character."

Bottled: 19.01.21 | Double Matured in 2 Madeira Casks for 14 Years

Number Bottled: 420 | Glendullan, Speyside

“I think this is one of the most extraordinary mature Singletons we have ever created. The two small ex-Madeira barriques that held it were the subject of a one-off trial that I helped design, and I have tended them with special care. Originally distilled in 1992, the whisky was first matured in refill wood, then double-matured in these Madeira casks for another fourteen years.

Being The Singleton Master of Malts allows me to do what excites me most; to explore the rich and sensorial world of whisky flavour. To take risks in pursuit of real advances. This trial was our first to use Madeira wood, the second maturation very long. What was then a leap of faith has now rewarded our intuition, unveiling a sweet richness to complement the light and elegant distillery character.

Fresh and lively, the mild nose rests gentle citrus notes of sweet mandarin orange on a bed of sweet toffee and cut grass. Rich and creamy in texture, the taste is immediately very sweet, fruity and intense with juicy orange fruit. A growing savoury-spicy warmth then covers the palate, seeming to fizz in its desire to please. It is creamy in the development and has a long, drying finish.

This is a really rich, vibrant Singleton; the Madeira wood that helps develop this richness is well matched to the distillery character, yet its presence remains subtle. It is a real privilege to be able to enjoy its riches now. Though with a mere 350 bottles or so, only the fortunate will be able to.”
